Innovative Housing and Urban Revitalisation in Hofheim

5 March 2026

On 26–27 February, Eurhonet held its Council of Administration meeting in Hofheim, Germany, hosted by HWB.

The meeting brought together the Council of Administration members to discuss ongoing activities and future collaboration. Alongside the meeting, we had the opportunity to visit two inspiring local projects reflecting Hofheim’s and HWB’s commitment to community-driven and sustainable urban development.

Neue Stadtbücherei (New City Library)

One of the highlights of the visit was the Neue Stadtbücherei (New City Library), a project widely considered by residents as the “living room” of Hofheim.

Far more than a traditional library, the space combines cultural, social, and urban functions. The area includes a café, a reading and cultural garden, as well as commercial and residential units. This multifunctional concept contributes to the revitalisation of the city centre, creating a vibrant meeting point for the local community.

The library offers a variety of activities and cultural initiatives, providing residents of all ages with opportunities to learn, exchange ideas, and engage with one another in an open and welcoming environment.

WIR am Klingenborn

We also visited WIR am Klingenborn, an innovative residential development with 41 apartments and three housing concepts:

  • Senior-friendly living
  • Multigenerational living
  • Independent, outpatient-assisted dementia care community

The project is designed to encourage interaction and mutual support among residents. It includes common spaces outside the apartments to create opportunities for daily engagement.

Moreover, sustainability is at the core of the development. WIR am Klingenborn is powered by heat pumps and solar photovoltaic systems, benefits from high-quality insulation, and includes an e-car sharing agreement available to interested residents.

The visit to Hofheim provided valuable insights into how local housing providers can strengthen communities and advance sustainable construction practices.
