Furniture makeover workshop: embracing sustainability and creativity

FSM is committed to fostering a circular economy and embracing sustainability. In June 2024, FSM organised the first in a series of furniture makeover workshops exclusively for their tenants. This initiative not only helps residents to lead a more sustainable lifestyle but also equips them with practical skills to personalise their homes on a limited budget.

Don’t replace! Repair and remodel.

The furniture makeover workshop was offered to tenants across several residents in Melun, providing a creative and enjoyable way to contribute to sustainability goals. The event raised awareness of the value of repairing rather than replacing furniture. It demonstrated that with a little creativity and effort, it is possible to transform existing pieces to suit personal tastes, preferences, and lifestyles.

This workshop served as a practical lesson in limiting consumption by giving new life to old furniture, thereby reducing waste and supporting the circular economy.

Hands-on learning

Led by the team from the local association LES FEES RECUP, the afternoon workshop offered hands-on instruction in furniture makeover. Participants learned essential techniques, including cleaning, stripping, sanding, painting, finishing, and customisation. The session also provided practical tips on how to easily repair wooden furniture, such as removing scratches, filling holes, and lightening pieces to give them a new life.

The workshop was met with such enthusiasm that a second session was quickly scheduled to dive deeper into these techniques.
