We are pleased to invite Eurhonet members to our annual Conference and General Assembly.
This year, we will be kindly hosted by Viviendas Municipales de Bilbao in Bilbao, Spain. The Conference will take place from 21-22 October. Find out more below!
Affordable Housing
The first day of the conference will examine the theme of Affordable Housing, focusing on how to balance renovation, sustainability and social equity.
We will learn together how the Basque Country and, particularly, Bilbao are tackling an ageing housing stock. We will then explore through three panel discussions the most pressing European affordability challenges from different perspectives, and delve into the topics raised with a roundtable discussion.

Urban Regeneration
A study visit in the afternoon will revolve around the urban regeneration of the Otxarkoaga neighbourhood in Bilbao. The focus of the visits will be to dig into how housing in the area has been upgraded while maintaining affordability for its current residents.
Otxarkoaga is considered a priority intervention area by the Bilbao City Council. The neighbourhood was developed in the 1950s to address an urgent housing shortage. The average building age is around 60 years old, with an average dwelling size of 59m2. The regeneration of Otxarkoaga is part of the Orain Otxar building rehabilitation programme, funded by the Basque Government through Next Generation EU funds, and focused on improving energy efficiency, accessibility and habitability.
