Jannik Kempel from DOGEWO21 joined the Early Careers Programme to see how the EU works from the inside and connect with young professionals from across Europe. His visit to the institutions and the insights he gained from experts in Brussels helped shape his understanding of EU processes and inspired new ideas for his future career.

What motivated you to join the Early Careers Programme in Brussels?
“I wanted to get a real look at how the EU works from the inside and gain some new experiences. Plus, the idea of meeting people from all over Europe really appealed to me.”
What was the highlight of your experience?
“Definitely visiting the institutions and talking to the professionals there. It was super interesting and made everything feel much more real.”
What did you learn about how the EU works that you didn’t know before?
“I realised how many steps and discussions it takes before decisions are made, and how many people work behind the scenes to make it all happen.”
How did visiting the institutions and meeting professionals here change your perspective on Europe or your career path?
“It showed me how diverse careers in the European environment can be. It also gave me some new ideas for my own career path.”
What’s one thing you’ll take away from this programme, personally or professionally?
“A better understanding oft he EU, great new contacts, and the feeling that I tried something new and valuable.”
Finally, what would you say to future participants who are thinking about joining the programme?
“Go for it! You learn a lot, meet great people, and gain experiences you wouldn’t get anywhere else.”
About the Early Careers Programme
Eurhonet’s Early Careers Programme is a 3-day annual training held in Brussels for trainees and young professionals. It offers workshops, seminars and study visits, including to the European Parliament and the European Council, to build skills, understand EU policymaking and explore the European housing landscape.
By bringing together a small group from different member organisations, the programme strengthens knowledge exchange, supports network building and helps attract new talent to the public and social housing sector.
