Beatrice Gunnarsson, Marketing Coordinator at Varbergs Bostad, has recently become the new Ageing Topic Group Leader. In order to get to know her, we have talked to her and delved into her story, her views on challenges and opportunities in housing for ageing population and her vision for the group’s future.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your professional background?
“I spent over 20 years in the hospitality and restaurant industry, developing strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of service. At Varbergs Bostad, I started as a team leader and helped build a brand-new rental team from the ground up. Today, I work as Marketing Coordinator, where I oversee tenant activities and events – applying my leadership experience and service mindset in a new setting.”
What inspired you to work in the housing sector, and particularly with issues related to ageing?
“I have always believed that all people deserve to live with dignity, safety, and a true sense of belonging. Reflecting on how I would want to be treated as I grow older inspires me to help create housing that genuinely supports people as they age. “
What motivated you to take on the role of Ageing Topic Group Leader at Eurhonet?
“This role is about generating impact through collective effort. While I value leading projects, I believe that meaningful and lasting change arises from teamwork and collaboration.”
From your perspective, what are the main challenges and opportunities in housing for an ageing population?
“Isolation, safety, and the lack of adaptable homes are some of the biggest challenges. At the same time, they present opportunities to rethink housing and design flexible, sustainable solutions that enhance comfort, strengthen community, and foster a true sense of belonging.”
What priorities and goals do you believe are vital for the Ageing Topic Group in the coming year?
“I believe there are several challenges to address, such as finding practical solutions to make homes more accessible and secure, strengthening social connections, and considering the impact of climate change on older residents. Equally important is the sharing of knowledge within Eurhonet, so that we can learn from one another’s experiences.”
How do you hope Eurhonet members will benefit from participating in this group’s activities?
“I hope we can gain new insights together, generate new fresh ideas, and identify concrete solutions to apply within our companies. My vision is for this group to grow into a strong network where we support one another in addressing the challenges of ageing. “
Finally, what would you like Eurhonet members to know about you as you begin this new role?
“I am approachable, dedicated, and passionate about improving the lives of our residents. Above all, I believe in collaboration, and I look forward to working alongside the members to create meaningful and lasting change.”
We look forward to following Beatrice’s leadership as the Ageing Topic Group continues to grow and evolve.
